11/13/2023 0 Comments Dodge hornet crossoverIn hindsight, that was an interesting and fun move. Instead, the company leaned further on its Durango, Charger, and Challenger. When the Dart went to the great assembly line in the sky, Dodge didn't replace it. The Caliber was an interesting take on a hatchback, and the Dart tried to revive one of Dodge's legendary nameplates, but neither seemed to resonate. Since the Neon, Dodge's compacts haven't always risen to the top of the mountain. Dodge packs adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen as standard equipment. The 2023 Dodge Hornet GT starts at $31,590, including destination, and is hitting dealers shortly. The Hornet brings Dodge back to the compact segment with an all-wheel-drive, 268-hp base model and a 288-hp PHEV variant that packs 383 lb-ft of torque. With the Dodge name also more established in the United States than Alfa Romeo, it is likely the Hornet will be a bigger sales success for Stellantis. Its 1.5-liter engine described as “tardy” by some organizations. The Hurricane4 engine makes the Hornet GT more powerful than the base Tonale. ![]() ![]() What Dodge is offering with the Hornet is more comprehensive than Alfa’s Tonale, and for less money too. As is the fact that Dodge has already revealed plans for the future with the Hornet R/T hybrid. That alone is one big plus for the Hornet. Dodge are also pricing the Hornet at a lower point than the Tonale, meaning you will in effect pay extra for the Alfa Romeo name. Its Italian cousin recently relaunched Alfa Romeo in the United States. But the Hornet is probably a better bet for many than the Tonale. The Hornet uses the underpinnings of the Tonale and it is clear that some design cues are also borrowed. Something that has caused disruption within Stellantis is the Hornet’s similarities to the Alfa Romeo Tonale. Thanks to the 90 kW electric motor on the rear axle, while the R/T will also have a six-speed automatic transmission. But we do know that there will be more than 30 miles al all-electric range. Dodge is being cagey so far on what engine exactly this is. Under the hood, Dodge say the R/T will feature a 1.3-liter turbocharged all aluminum engine from the Stellantis Global Small Engine family. It won’t be a full electric version, but a hybrid. This special feature will deliver a 30 hp burst, and bring the 0-60 mph time of the car down by 1.5 seconds from the original 5.6 seconds.ĭodge is stating that the Hornet R/T will become the first electrified performance vehicle to come from the company. Although Dodge has said it will have an on-demand PowerShot feature. This is the 2024 Hornet R/T called “Head of Hive.” We don’t know everything about this version just yet. Dodge has already revealed that an electrified version of the Hornet is on the way. And its set to create an exciting future for the Hornet. While the Hornet is barely a year old, Dodge is already planning for the future. All this for just under $30,000 with the $29,995 base price. So you get a spacious and practical car, that can rival some truly classic muscle cars. With features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto adding to the usability of the Hornet. The infotainment system is also hugely impressive. The cabin has a very premium feeling and there is plenty of space for what is, quite a compact vehicle. But the Hornet also offers a good level of practicality with that performance. This goes to show the level of progress since that first Charger in 1966. The first-gen Charger had a 318-cubic inch V8 engine with 245 hp, less than the new Hornet. ![]() What is most impressive about this engine is that it is actually more powerful than what was in the first generation of the Charger back in 1996. This is thanks to the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Hurricane4 turbo engine. There are various trim levels, but the entry level GT version of the Hornet gives you 268 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. One of the most impressive things is the performance that the 2023 Dodge Hornet has to offer.
